The best thing we can do as leaders is leverage people's strengths. When managesr ONLY harp on what people need to fix or correct it wears people down. For example a boss comes out of his or her office to ask an employee "Bob, when you have second could you come in my office"?
Honestly what is Bob thinking? You know what he's thinking "uh oh I m in trouble". Where does thast reaction come from? You know where, us as leaders. We do NOT make a conscientious effort to focus on good things, rather like pavlov's dog we are triggered to fix or correct the mistakes we observe. Over time we are conditioned to do just that and sadly just that!
