    Dethrone the Prom Queen

“For a cheap date and a good time call employee training!”  That’s right, we’re saying what everyone else is thinking. Employee training is washed up and it’s time to move on. Training may have flirted and hair flipped it’s way to popularity but, just like every former prom queen, training is now faced with the harsh reality of it’s inevitable fast, hard fall to the bottom. Because while everyone else packs up their stuff at the end of summer and moves on, training is right where it started and right where it’s going to remain.

Training has had a pretty good run but the fact is, as an industry, it has taken us as far as it’s ever going to, it has peaked. This is not to say that it is going to disappear. You’ll still run into it from time to time. Training will try to reminisce about the “good old days” with you and you’ll smile and nod, but the truth is you surreptitious feel pity for training because while it’s best days have come and gone you are living your “good old days” right now, with coaching.

Coaching is everything that training promised to be but failed to deliver and so much more. It is all that you want and need in an employee develop program. Coaching engages and motivates employees to own their own success and failures thus giving each employee a personal vested interest in improving and evolving to constantly be in pursuit of his or her optimal level of performance.

According to a study completed by the Leadership council:  “Employees will yield a 57 % greater discretionary effort when they are engaged with their manager.”

Coaching will, without a doubt, be an adjustment but for the better. Coaching enables managers to relate to, communicate with, and help employees grow within a position that is natural for both parties. It cultivates trust and breeds productivity that doesn't just emulate a supportive atmosphere but actually creates a genuine culture based in collective determination and support of on another in pursuit of one mutual goal, performance.

What has your training done for you lately?

All joking aside, coaching is an effect and efficient tool that will engage and develop employees to drive performance.
