Today, employees are faced with challenges every single day but few will rise above and choose to overcome. This is either a decision or a decision to develop skills and behaviors that allow for the challenge to be successfully completed. Let me give you a brief example. During the downturn around 2008 economically companies were faced with severe financial pressures. What does it say when things get tough and employees immediate reaction is to get the resume ready? Wouldn't it be nice if every employee told themselves "Wow, my organization is in trouble so I have to find a way to work harder and more so the organization can successfully get through this difficult time".

Our society is predicated upon people typically thinking of themselves and not the organization. Coaching can be an invaluable tool for employees to learn new perspectives and opportunities during difficult times. Coaching is about asking questions and allowing someone to look in the mirror and then ultimately take action on what they see in the mirror. The grass is never greener on the other side when we leave organizations; therefore, employees have to be challenged and coached to see the opportunities that are typically right in front of them. Coaching is an invaluable tool and process to retaining, growing, and developing today's employee!

Employees either get up and find a way to overcome or they sit stagnant ultimately deciding to stay Status Quo!
