Beyond the Calendar: Try CADENCE Coaching
More and more tools are coming out in the workplace coaching sphere that allow us to have asynchronous conversations. Asynchronous means something that doesn't always occur at the same time, much like the traditional coaching method of set weekly or monthly sessions. Asynchronous is more flexible whenever you need it.
At Progress Coaching we happen to use two tools for asynchronous coaching. One is Profi, the other is ClarityFlow. ClarityFlow has incredible service as does Profi.
What I love about their service is you can have a conversation and get a quick response on how to use their applications. What they're really doing is they're practicing what they preach. They're using their application in the way they intend their learners, their users, to use it. Kat, who's head of their customer service, does a wonderful job. I feel like I have a relationship with her because she goes on video, sends me an audio, I send her a video, I send an audio, making sure I feel connected to her and she does a great job.
Often when we're coaching, we think we always have to be in front of people. Cadence coaching is about creating a cadence of those conversations that rarely relies on the calendar. Instead, it relies on the person's needs in the moment.
We really want to feel connected to people, especially since the pandemic. A one-time, all-day training can be draining, and smaller doses of consistent help on an asynchronous method is more effective. More importantly, the connections develop better. They are able to practice what they're learning to improve as a coach and a leader because we have a stronger connection over time. Not just where I fly out to their location and cram in as much information and insights in a three-day workshop with no true reinforcement. Training only lasts so long. Cadence can extend that out in a more effective, long-term support.
The cadence of coaching can include other valuable learning tools, such as sending in audio or video, with updates once a week or so. It could include sending questions via video or an article relevant to their area for improvement and asking their impression. How would this help you? How would you leverage the content, the components of this article or this video to assist you in your leadership or your endeavor for your career? That's coaching.
Remember, coaching at its most fundamental basis is asking questions and helping people self-discover. We do not have to be in the same room for that to happen. Think about investing in some tools that allow you to have ongoing dialogue that doesn't require you to block out 20 - 30 minutes on your calendar each week. Cadence Coaching works.
