Goals are a vital component to any business or company, without them there would be no direction, motivation, or purpose. Goals keep people focused on their work and give them something to work for. They inspire people to believe in themselves and encourage them to try new things and get creative with their work. GOAL based coaching is designed to do exactly that. GOAL is an acronym for Great, Opportunity, Action/Activity, and Love. The purpose of GOAL based coaching is to use this acronym to set goals, make a plan to achieve them, and follow through with that plan.

First, you need to sit down with your employee and discuss their goal or a series of goals that they want to achieve. Next you implement GOAL based coaching:

GOAL Coaching is conducted through a series of questions pertaining to the acronym.

    1. What do you need to become great at to meet that goal?
    2. What opportunities do you think will commence or be a result of you becoming great and achieving that goal?
    3. What actions or activities to WE need to do TOGETHER in order for you to become great and your opportunities to become your reality?
    4. What will you love about achieving this goal? (this is the emotional attachment to the goal)

By writing this out or visualizing these steps for the employee, they can keep it on hand to use if they need motivation or a little help figuring out how to proceed.
