    5 Reasons to Coach Your Employees

    The difference between managers and leaders or coaches can be a blurred line for some. As the year comes to an end, and reps begin to stress about hitting end of year goals, the difference in performance of teams managed and those coached can be astronomical.  A true coach wants to see their people change and grow, not maintain the status quo.

    Take this opportunity to lead your team to success, and not let them hide behind excuses.  It’s been a tough year for most, use this as an opportunity to emerge as a coach and leader and not just a manager by helping, coaching, and inspiring your staff to do better.

    Here are 5 reasons you should be coaching your staff and increasing their sales skills more then ever.


    1. Due to the end of year they are stressed. Show your people, especially the struggling ones, you are there to help.  Spend a few extra minutes a day encouraging or complimenting them, their output to customers will be more professional and less frantic.

    2.There ARE deals out there, but reps will assume otherwise. This is a reflection of your leadership, so what are you going to do about it?  I would bet you would want them to keep working hard.  It’s easy to make excuses for low sales because of the economy or shrinking end of year budgets, but those are just excuses.  The truly skilled professionals know there are still sales to be won out there, and it’s your job to remind your people of that fact.

    3.They are scared about not hitting their numbers and may not be in the right mind set to close deals.   Ask questions and REALLY listen for opportunities, to coach.  Sometimes just the act of getting them to admit their fears out loud is enough to get them to begin to work past them.

    4.Coaching shows great leadership and breeds the mentality “never give up”.

    5.Your reps are your kids. They are a reflection of you whether you like it or not. Don’t assume they cannot finish the year strong, because if you do they will read into it and give themselves permission to not try.  Continue to coach them and show them you believe in their capabilities.
